Dress It Up:

4 Hairstyles for Any Event

You know what they say: April showers bring May… weddings and proms?

The season of formal events is now in full swing. While every prom girl could tell you their dress is the star of the look, did you know the way you style your hair has the power to complement or detract from your dress?

Between Pinterest, Instagram, and Google, the inspiration for formal styles is endless, and sometimes overwhelming. At Socias we did the work for you, handpicking our favorite updos fresh for the 2019 season. We let you know which dress neckline each would pair best with, and how you can pull it off, hair length regardless. That’s right: if you’re currently rocking short hair (anywhere between shoulder-grazing and a long bob) an updo is still possible! For each look, we included an example done on a someone with short hair.

Read on to get inspiration for whatever prom, wedding, recital, graduation, etc. you’ll be attending! If you fall in love with a hairstyle that doesn’t necessarily pair with your dress type, don’t worry. After consulting with your stylist at Socias you may realize that some rules are meant to be broken.

Half-Up

Half-Down

This style is perfect if you plan on wearing a strapless or sweetheart neckline. This neckline creates a blank space on the shoulders and collarbone area; half the hair cascading over adds interest and balance.

High Updo

Try your hair pulled higher up in a classy bun or ponytail if you have a dress with a high neckline. This ensures your locks won’t be competing with your dress.

Side Swept

Sweeping your hair to the side whether it be down and cascading over the shoulder or secured in a side bun or braid will add balance to an asymmetrical  or one-shoulder dress. Pulling your hair to the opposite side of your single strap will make sure your unique neckline stands out.

Low Updo

This style pairs best with a scoop neck  or v-neck dress, though this dress type is the most versatile and looks great with nearly any hairstyle. A low updo is ideal for those with a short haircut who want all their hair up and off their shoulders.
